Hippos are some of my favorite animals. They're strong, intimidating, deadly, and too chubby for anyone to take them seriously in a photo (in the wild is a different story.) How can you not love their blubbery haunches as they jiggle on land or float like balloons under water?! This painting is of a young hippo calf in a flowing river. I really tried to have fun with color on this one, which was somewhat challenging given its small size.
