This painting is inspired by my many trips to places that almost always seem to have tortoises on display, zoos! 

One of my favorite animal species to watch at the zoo is the tortoise. Big or small, they are known for being heavy and slow, kind of like how I feel before my morning coffee. Any time I see them, they're almost always munching on something, so naturally I thought it would be fitting to paint one in the middle of enjoying his breakfast of greens. I especially love giant tortoises. There's something extra cute about a creature so heavy and old that it takes naps between bites.
